Why Not to Switch Keywords Mid-Campaign.

We all know how important keywords are to your SEO campaign and the hard work that has gone into ranking competitive keywords. Why is it then that so many people find it to be so easy to switch out old keywords with new ones, just because they are under-performing. The key is to add new keywords, vs. replacing, because if you stop working on competition kw, you are surely going to lose your rankings very quickly. One important thing to remember is that although you may stop, others aren’t.

This point is especially true of campaigns that are being drip fed. Imagine this scenario:

Google didn’t even know who your site was, but after months of link building and building authority you are now ranking solidly on the first page. On top of this you have built a solid backlink profile, and have acclimated Google to a steady flow of links coming from quality sites. The term drip feeding refers to using certain tools that will “drip” your links into Google’s eyes. If you build links to quickly and too many, Google is SURE to penalize you. Therefore some of us in the industry have managed to create methods to slowly “release” them into population if you will. This drip feed system alerts Google that  hey we have some good links here, and there being built naturally- look at the rate they are being produced, it’s all natural over here.

But then as campaigns mature and ranking earned, it is only normal to think that you can stop work on well ranking words, and move on to new kw.. EEEHHHH, wrong. You have gotten Google used to a certain regiment of links to your site for a defined keyword, and if you suddenly stop now, good luck.  It’s like you’re raising a bright red flag that says, hey I’ve been building links, please drop my rankings. Link building is not illegal, nor is it regulated. Link building is a method of building authority that appears to be NATURAL.

Stay Natural my friends.
